Is it psychosomatic, holistic, homeopathic, allopathic, or naturopathic?

S

ay consumers, what kind of doctor do you want? What makes you feel better? Why did you go to that doctor in the first place?  Laws, licenses, guilds, specialties, information, an age of evolution, herbs to pharmaceuticals. Whom do you trust?  Family practitioners? General practitioners? Basic doctors? Chiropractors? Naturopaths? MD’s?  DO’s?  Specialists?

O

ne doctor doesn’t prescribe. Another “pops” everything in your body. You say you went to a doctor for three years, but the chiropractor helped you? You always had side effects from the medicines? What’s all this diet and weight control?

Why do they cut you up, rearrange your finger, your nose, your breasts, your heart, manipulate your spine, check your iris, cut up your hair, massage the soles of your feet, even map energy pathways and stick needles in your ears, give antibiotics and immunizations?

Now they are even recognizing specific “scientific reactions with monoclonal antibodies.”

Why, it’s all in your mind - so they say.  You’re under stress. But let’s put it all together for you.  No doubt you are hurting. Let’s see: Your mom had diabetes, your dad had high blood pressure, and you have a gnawing in your stomach.

Let’s purify, your colon and get the toxins out. Sounds logical to purify your system - basic vegetables, sunshine, exercise, diet, maybe some colonic hydrotherapy and “wash out your colon.” Why not? Those poisons can be absorbed and pollute your system, can’t they?

Those nerves in may be injured and they enervate your stomach and intestines, and, well - you need to be realigned. And that will help your back and stomach, too.

But what about using some “prostaglandin inhibitors” and antacids? Just modify the diet, of course

But is it all in your head?

No, it’s really all together! What do all these terms mean, anyhow?  And how can they help you feel better?

Psychosomatic pertains to the influence of the mind or higher functions of the brain, emotions, fears and desires and their effect upon the functions of the body, especially in relation to disease. So when the cause of mental disturbance is properly analyzed and corrected, the physical manifestations of disease are eliminated (no tests, no stomach pain).

Homeopathy, on the other hand, is based on the idea that “like cures like”; that is, large doses of a certain drug given to a healthy person will produce conditions which, when occurring spontaneously as symptoms of disease, are relieved by the same drug in small doses.

Modern medical practice or allopathy (M.D.), in which drugs are used to produce effects in the body that will directly alleviate or oppose symptoms of disease work in marked contrast to homeopathy.

Naturopathy. which uses only natural, non-medicinal forces to maintain health and treat disease, in turn, is in contrast to allopathy.  Typical remedies include sunbathing, diet regimen, steam bathing, exercise and manipulation.  Light vegetable consumption is encouraged, as is abstinence from salt and stimulants.

Osteopathy (D.O.) is based upon the theory that the normal body’ when in correct adjustment, is a vital machine capable of making its own remedies against infection or other toxic conditions. Measures used to effect this end are manipulation, hygiene, medicine and surgery,

Chiropractic, (D.C.) of course, does not use drugs or surgery, but is a philosophic system of mechanical therapeutics which attributes disease to misalignments (vertebral subluxation) whereby  attempts are made to maintain the structural and functional integrity of the nervous system by massage and manipulation of the spine, joints and soft tissues.

T

he driving force of unification eventually leads to the holistic approach of medicine. Within this perspective, man functions as a completely integrated unit, not only as individual organs, bones or spirit. Treatments include whatever is needed to modify disease within the context of one’s nutritional, psychological and spiritual well-being.

P

ossibly with an understanding of these underlying philosophies, finding the most effective doctor may be somewhat easier. Who knows? Perhaps we should stay away from doctors. Maybe they are dangerous to your health.

A

s medical specialization expands to combine the scientific and psychological with the spiritual, the people have known for years what the doctors are slowly learning. Present society with it’s medical malpractice, consumerism, and availability of medical care appears to be purging the medical profession and itself to extract this holistic formula for the purified doctor of witchcraft,  curer of evil and sickness, true healer of modern man.

And by the way, why do chiropractors have the largest homes and offices?

Ehhh ... what’s up, doc?
